American Debt Guide explains ways out of debt and offers free tools to help you understand your numbers. It doesn’t give individual advice. Here’s what that means in practice.

None of it is financial, legal, tax or credit advice, and using the site doesn’t create a client relationship of any kind. American Debt Guide isn’t a law firm, a credit counseling agency, a lender or a debt relief company.
For decisions with legal or tax consequences, such as bankruptcy or settling a debt, talk to a qualified professional who can look at your whole situation.
The tools give estimates
The Debt Audit and calculators apply published formulas to the numbers you enter. Their results are estimates, and they’re only as accurate as those numbers. They can’t account for everything: variable or promotional rates, fees, changes to your income, or whether a lender would approve you. When a tool says an option “fits your numbers,” it means the numbers match published rules for when that option is usually worth a look. It isn’t a recommendation to take any particular action.
Accuracy
Pages are checked against official sources and reviewed regularly, but laws, rates and program rules change, and mistakes can happen. The site makes no guarantee that every page is complete or current. Check anything important against the sources listed on each page, and if you find an error, please let us know.
Money and independence
The site doesn’t currently run ads or earn commissions from lenders, companies or law firms. If that changes, this page will say so, and ads will always be clearly separate from the content. No one can pay to change what a page says or which option the Debt Audit points to. See About for more.
